* wifi: cfg80211/mac80211: Add support to get radio indexRoopni Devanathan2025-06-241-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Currently, per-radio attributes are set on per-phy basis, i.e., all the radios present in a wiphy will take attributes values sent from user. But each radio in a wiphy can get different values from userspace based on its requirement. To extend support to set per-radio attributes, add support to get radio index from userspace. Add an NL attribute - NL80211_ATTR_WIPHY_RADIO_INDEX, to get user specified radio index for which attributes should be changed. Pass this to individual drivers, so that the drivers can use this radio index to change per-radio attributes when necessary. Currently, per-radio attributes identified are: NL80211_ATTR_WIPHY_TX_POWER_LEVEL NL80211_ATTR_WIPHY_ANTENNA_TX NL80211_ATTR_WIPHY_ANTENNA_RX NL80211_ATTR_WIPHY_RETRY_SHORT NL80211_ATTR_WIPHY_RETRY_LONG NL80211_ATTR_WIPHY_FRAG_THRESHOLD NL80211_ATTR_WIPHY_RTS_THRESHOLD NL80211_ATTR_WIPHY_COVERAGE_CLASS NL80211_ATTR_TXQ_LIMIT NL80211_ATTR_TXQ_MEMORY_LIMIT NL80211_ATTR_TXQ_QUANTUM By default, the radio index is set to -1. This means the attribute should be treated as a global configuration. If the user has not specified any index, then the radio index passed to individual drivers would be -1. This would indicate that the attribute applies to all radios in that wiphy. As the "cmd_buf" variable is a pointer to "struct at76_command" and this structure ends in a flexible array: struct at76_command { [...] u8 data[]; } __packed; the preferred way in the kernel is to use the struct_size() helper to do the arithmetic instead of the calculation "size + count" in the kmalloc() function. Also, declare a new variable (total_size) since the return value of the struct_size() helper is used several times. At the same time, prepare for the coming implementation by GCC and Clang of the __counted_by attribute. Flexible array members annotated with __counted_by can have their accesses bounds-checked at run-time via CONFIG_UBSAN_BOUNDS (for array indexing) and CONFIG_FORTIFY_SOURCE (for strcpy/memcpy-family functions). In this case, it is important to note that the attribute used is "__counted_by_le" since the counter type is "__le16". This way, the code is more readable and safer. (The latter term more properly refers to a defunct Wireless USB specification, which described a technology for sending USB protocol messages over an ultra wideband radio link.) These mismatches are visible at compile time with the new -Wcast-function-type-strict in Clang[1]. Of the 1549 warnings found, 188 come from the atmel driver. For example: drivers/net/wireless/atmel/atmel.c:2518:2: warning: cast from 'int (*)(struct net_device *, struct iw_request_info *, void *, char *)' to 'iw_handler' (aka 'int (*)(struct net_device *, struct iw_request_info *, union iwreq_data *, char *)') converts to incompatible function type [-Wcast-function-type-strict] (iw_handler) atmel_config_commit, /* SIOCSIWCOMMIT */ ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The atmel Wireless Extension handler callbacks (iw_handler) use a union for the data argument. Actually use the union and perform explicit member selection in the function body instead of having a function prototype mismatch. There are no resulting binary differences. This patch is a cleanup based on Brad Spengler/PaX Team's modifications to the atmel driver in their last public patch of grsecurity/PaX based on my understanding of the code. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The current codebase makes use of the zero-length array language extension to the C90 standard, but the preferred mechanism to declare variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible array member[1][2], introduced in C99: struct foo { int stuff; struct boo array[]; }; By making use of the mechanism above, we will get a compiler warning in case the flexible array does not occur last in the structure, which will help us prevent some kind of undefined behavior bugs from being inadvertently introduced[3] to the codebase from now on. Also, notice that, dynamic memory allocations won't be affected by this change: "Flexible array members have incomplete type, and so the sizeof operator may not be applied. As a quirk of the original implementation of zero-length arrays, sizeof evaluates to zero."[1] This issue was found with the help of Coccinelle.
